Personal recommendation : 0-3 years old and up

I personally loves this “Play around with book physically” kind of series and I would like to pick this book today. Similar to what I reported previously, this book is also from France and translated into Japanese.  Although not knowing the original text in French, but the translation was done beautifully and kids can enjoy “shaking” this book up and down, left to right. 😉

What did I mean by “Play with Book physically”?  Well, the reader is advised to “protect” themselves from approaching wolf based on instruction and it involves some physical move of hands with this book.  Can the little reader indeed protect themselves from scary wolf?  Can the reader handle its heart pounding situation???😊  Let’s take a look at the storyline.

  • From far, the wolf is approaching.  Text says “Hurry! Turn the page so that wolf would get away!”
  • Yet, Wolf continues to come closer.  Text says “Hurry! Turn the page now!”
  • Yet, wolf is getting way to close to the reader.   “Hurry! Tilt the book to the right!”
  • Wolf is then losing balance as the ground became slope (Downhill to the right)    “Nice!  Hold the book still and turn the page!”
  • Wolf further lost the balance.  “Tilt the book further!”
  • Wolf lost balance completely and start rolling around.   “Yes, Wolf is about to fall off from the cliff!”
  • Wolf fell off the cliff but barely caught the wood stick coming out of the edge of cliff with one hand,   “Shake the book now!”
  • Wolf is still trying to hold the stick.   “Turn the book, up-side-down!”
  • (All the text now shown in up-side-down manner on the page)   “Oh no, Wolf is still holding the stick. What a guy!  You can bring the book in original position and turn the page now”
  • “Oh no! As position of book get back to original, as did Wolf getting back on top of the cliff.  Hurry! Turn the page to the next!”
  • Wolf is approaching withing inches distance.  “HELP!   Close the book now!”
  • On back cover of the book with only text (no illustration) says “Phew. No more scary wolf.  Would you like to go back to page #1 to start over?”

I personally think this book is suitable for 2-3 years old and those reader should enjoy a lot!  It is mildly thrilling for small readers (but moderate level for little ones).  Illustration is simple and coloring are also quite simple as well. (Mainly, Yellow Background, Green field, and Red text and Black Wolf)   But I believe this would actually let the readers more on the story.
