Well, this is going to be interesting review since this book (text in the book) does not make any sense! To make you being on the same page as me, I usually summarize the story line in this blog but instead, let me write all the text in this book below. (Each page content is divided by comma below) Here we go.
MOKERA MOKERA DEKEDEKE, PATARA PETARA, PITAGORA PITAGORA, KORO MOKO MEKA MOKEKE KEKEKE, SHABATA SHABATA SHABATA PATASA, TEPE PATE PITE PATA PITE PITA, SHABARA SHUPIRA SHARA SHARA SHARA, EPEPE TEPEPE PUTE POTA POTO, GUGAN GUGAN DABATA TON, DAPATA DOPATA DOBA DOBA DOBA, SHABA, JOWARAN JOWARAN JOWARAN JOWARAN, GORO GARO GURE MOGA, GOARA GOARA, GARA GARA GARA TOBATA TAN TABATA TAN, ZUBARABA
You know what I meant now? Even if you do not understand Japanese language, one thing you are sure of is that above makes absolutely no sense as language, right? But it turns out it is GREAT book for 0-2 years old! Let me tell you some personal story. Once I took Parenting lecture class and the instructor introduced this book to the class. The author of this book (Mr. Yosuke Yamashita) actually is Jazz Pianist and is talented as musician. He realized it is critical for kids (Japanese kids especially) to learn the sound of vowel and consonant in early stage since Japanese language (in sound/pronunciation) indeed consists of those vowel/consonant mixture. Also, Mr. Yamashita also knows importance of Plosive sound as well as Voiced consonant/syllable.
Thus, he decided to make up some fake language to cover those combinations and put it together as Children’s book along with bunch of colorful abstract illustration figures for kids to imagine whatever they would like to perceive those sounds/figures as objects. (Adult would have difficult time to figure out what those illustrations are since it is way too abstract.) Yet, once you know those background story of this book and read the entire text shown above again, you start getting the purpose of the author, right? Especially for 1-2 years old, this book is quite addictive and you may get requests to repeat reading again and again. (Well, I did) But this would teach small kids a great intro for Japanese language and I would recommend to new parents especially.
