ぼくのニセモノをつくるには How to make “fake myself”

ぼくのニセモノをつくるには Shinsuke Yoshitake  ヨシタケシンスケ 2010s

Author : Shinsuke Yoshitake  ヨシタケシンスケ

Published : 2014

Personal recommendation : 5 years old and up

I guarantee that everybody has, at least once, thought of “Gosh, how awesome if I have two bodies and can do multiple things simultaneously or “Real Me” even slacking off while Fake Myself working on”.  Well, this book is about the boy who is thinking like this and expanding his imagination how to make Fake Himself as realistic as possible?

Warning :  I have to tell you that this story is actually quite deep and make you think who you really are and what is the true happiness etc. Pretty philosophical things.

Mr. Shinsuke Yoshitake is very popular author and has published numbers of books and I have also reviewed some of his works earlier. (#1, #2 and #3

Let’s see what the storyline is about, shown below.

  • Boy is fed up with all the things he does not want to do such as homework, room cleaning etc. One day, he thought it would be awesome idea to make “fake myself” out of robot.   He went into the toy store and bought one robot. He asked Roboto to lean to become like himself.  Robot asked him it requires lots of info about him and asked to provide the list of the info which represent this boy.   Robot asked him to come up with list of “I am/Have XXXX” so that robot can input those details.
  • List #1 :  “I have name and family”  (In this page, all those family/personal info was written)
  • List #2 :  “I would look like this”  (In this page, all those appearance of each body parts were described.  Funny one is “my socks usually have hole around toe” 😊      This isn’t enough for robot and robot asked to continue the list making
  • List #3 : I have both things that I love and hate.    (Like :  Seaweed around rice ball, grandma, swimming goggle. Hate : Language Homework, scent of perfume, hand cream etc)
  • List #4 :  “I have both things I can do and cannot do”    (Can do :  funny one is “I can sleep without pillow” “I can leave my hands off for a few sec while cycling.   Cannot do :  Cannot open potato chips bag. Cannot understand how girls think. Cannot go back in time and become baby again)
  • List #5 :  “ I have been myself since I was born”   I was infant and things I can do are increasing but it is still same me.
  • List #6 :   “I am a Child of my dad and mom”    But my dad or mom was also a child of her/his dad and mom.  So I have so many relatives in the past.
  • List #7 :  “I have a tendence to leave the trace of myself elsewhere”  I don’t clean my toys after playing, or leaves stains of soup on the table etc.  It is easy for anybody to know where I was.
  • List # 8 “ I am some sort of Machine in a sense”  I tend to keep doing the same things and in this sense, I am some kind of Machine. For example, I am “socks-hole-making machine” and I am also “fart-making machine”
  • List #9 :  “I am still under construction”  My body parts are still growing (height, teeth, hair, muscles) and with this pace, I will become giants robot-like myself someday!
  • List #10 :  “I have constantly changing feelings”  Depending on the day/mood, I can be grumpy, happy, fun and depressed.  Yet, it is still same me.
  • Robot says “OK, List is getting bigger now.  But it does not well represent YOU and these characteristics can be applied to any boys. This time, Let’s focus on how other people look at you!”
  • List #11 : “I am probably popular among certain people.”  It seems small part of me is in my family and my friend’s heart all the time and they think of me often. Guess I am popular after all.
  • List #12 : “ I have many place to be/go/visit/stay”  Home Living room, Granpa’s house, my own room,  School, Swimming class, and Friend’s house.
  • List #13 : “ I have things that I only know and other don’t know”  What I think can be only noticed by me, and nobody cannot get into my mind no matter what they do. If I have a crash on some girl, nobody knows until I tell. 😊
  • Wait, that means I have my own world inside my head and nobody cannot touch.  Wow, it is pretty awesome!
  • List #14 : “I am only one of the kinds”   Boy says my grandma told me we are like tree. The type of tree cannot be chosen upon birth, but how you grow the branch and leaves would depend on YOU.   Size does not matter; it just matters if you like the leaves/branches you are wearing or not.
  • After all, understanding and accepting SELF is difficult but fun at the same time.
  • Finally, Robot and Boy get to the Boy’s house. Robot says “Now I know a lot about you and I can become “fake” you! Just leave it to me”
  • At the last page,  Robot wearing Flat-paper boy-face mask tried to talk to Boy’s mom.  “Hey Mom” and Mom instantly said “Who the heck are you???”   (Behind the wall,  Boy was shocked Mom found out it is fake-himself instantly. 😊)

Pretty deep huh?  Especially towards the end, list #13 onwards contains the essence of philosophical aspect and I loved it actually.  Although illustration is cute and funny in many scenes,  the hidden message is for older readers and I am rating this book is for 5 years (at least) or older to fully enjoy.
